For the first time ever, the complete Harry Potter collection will be available to stream on Netflix UK from Wednesday, May 17. The Warner Bros. franchise couldn't previously be shown on the platform due to licensing issues.
However, a recent agreement means fans can now fall in love with Hogwarts all over again. From May 17 on Netflix UK and Ireland, each film in the Harry Potter franchise will be available to stream, including:
- Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone (2001)
- Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets (2002)
- Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban (2004)
- Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire (2005)
- Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix (2007)
- Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince (2009)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 1 (2010)
- Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows - Part 2 (2011)
Due to licensing and geographical restrictions, the films were only available on Netflix in certain countries, meaning fans of the fictional wizarding world had to resort to using VPNs to access the blockbusters on Netflix.
Announcing the news earlier today (May 16) on Twitter, Netflix said: "All 8 Harry Potter films come to Netflix UK/IE tomorrow!!" The tweet saw fans rejoice, with users rushing to reply back with their excitement.
Ayshabitual exclaiming: "Screaming crying throwing up!!!! FINALLY." Lukedutchh added: "Let’s gooooooooo." DefendTheTruth_ stated: "WE WILL BE WATCHING."
Mynameisvic asked: "Please tell me this isn't a late April fools??? #beenwaitingforthis." Barbaraantigua wrote: "Netflix don't want me to leave my house!"
The Harry Potter franchise began in 2001 and went on to earn $7.7billion through the box office alone. The Wizarding World series of films, which includes Fantastic Beasts, is the fourth highest earning film franchise in the history of movies. This is despite releasing 21 fewer titles than top grossing franchise, the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
Harry Potter arriving on Netflix comes off the back of the hugely popular video game Hogwarts Legacy, which as of May, has sold 15 million copies worldwide and earnt over $1billion.
