In-demand Harry Kewell insists the thought of putting Celtic on standby was never an option amid his head-turning TV displays during the World Cup.
The Socceroos icon has earned acclaim in the land Down Under for his charismatic punditry during the showpiece event in Qatar with Graham Arnold's side likely a draw against Denmark away from reaching the last 16. But Kewell is putting his club first as he gets set to exit Doha and link-up with the Scottish Premeirship champions for their training camp in Portugal.
Kewell insists the chance to be a TV star pales into insignificance compared to working alongside mentor Ange Postecoglou in a bid to secure more success at Parkhead. Speaking before exiting Doha, the Leeds United legend said: " I’ve been professional my whole life, [and] the opportunity [Postecoglou] has given me, that thought [of extending his agreed time in Doha] never crossed my mind."
And Kewell is hell-bent on dishing out advice to his players at club level as he admits he benefited from guidance during his own playing career. Daizen Maeda waxed lyrical about the Australian's impact on his own game amid a difficult Celtic spell before he linked up with Japan at the World Cup.
He added: "It needs to be taught. Even I have players at Celtic who still need to be taught,” Kewell continued. “I needed it when I was playing. Remember when I was 30, and Frank Rijkaard used to pull me aside and talk to me about my movement patterns. I was like, ‘Damn!"
