Kane bid raises the question, 'did Liverpool do enough?'
Yesterday afternoon, The Athletic reported that German champions Bayern Munich had seen a first bid of £60 million for England captain Harry Kane turned down by Tottenham Hotspur.
The 29-year-old has enjoyed a stellar career since breaking into the Premier League spotlight, albeit on an individual level. His accolades include three top-flight Golden Boots, one Playmaker Award, a PFA Player of the Season - even an MBE - although the fact he's yet to win a major trophy for club and country sparks life into debate whether he should find a new club to represent.
However, some would argue £60 million for a player shortly entering his 30s is a monumental offer for Spurs to receive. It also provides flashbacks to Liverpool's own situation 12 months ago when the Bavarians entered negotiations for Sadio Mane, who eventually left for an up-front fee of £27.5 million, raising to £35 million if certain conditions were met.

Now, there appears to be nobody left to raise funds for much-needed transfers.
Given the position the club now find themselves in, how is Kane worth more than twice as much as Mane? And did Liverpool do enough to squeeze every penny possible out of their ex-winger?

'El Pistolero' was a fan favourite after completing his switch from Ajax in January 2011, however after one-and-a-half years at the club there was no suggestion of any improvements to the squad or their league position. This resulted in Suarez's apparent disillusionment with the ongoing Reds project and inspired Champions League clubs to take advantage.
Of course the man would eventually get his wish, but not for another 12 months at that stage. However, Suarez was allegedly ready to up sticks for a English regular top four side before he made the switch to Spanish giants Barcelona, agreeing terms with a London club.
All that had to be completed was the agreement of an appropriate transfer, and well, FSG's response quickly put an end to negotiations...
