Harry Kane's Bayern Munich dilemma as Tottenham make stance clear on £60m transfer deal

After a quiet week or two in regard to Harry Kane's Tottenham future, talk over a big-money transfer away from north London has suddenly exploded back into life with quite a bang. Heavily linked with Manchester United and Real Madrid as both sides look to strengthen in attack, Bayern Munich, who have also been mentioned in regards to a move for the England captain in the past, have entered the fray for his services.

As reported by The Athletic, the Bundesliga champions have submitted an official bid for the 29-year-old. It is claimed that Bayern's offer is €70million (£60million) plus add-ons.

Always going to be a pivotal summer for Spurs chairman Daniel Levy when it comes to Kane's future as the striker is a matter of days away from entering the final year of his Tottenham contract, the Lilywhites will not want to lose their main man at all considering what he brings to the team. Spurs are continuing to make it very clear that they would immediately reject a bid for their No.10 should they receive one.

Perhaps taking a big risk with Kane this summer given his market value and the possibility of him leaving for nothing in 12 months' time, keeping the academy graduate at the club would only strengthen Tottenham's aspirations of qualifying for the Champions League once again after missing out on the top four last campaign. A summer exit for Kane would leave Ange Postecoglou, Levy and the club's new managing director of football with a huge task on their hands trying to somehow replace him.

Tottenham quite simply would not be able to replace Kane with one player as he has demonstrated in recent years that he is so much more than just a goalscorer. Keeping the striker at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium does hand the Spurs chairman more time to convince the striker to commit his long-term future to the club, with Postecoglou's attacking brand of football may be a big factor in whether he signs or not as that could be key to Tottenham rising again and challenging for major honours.

Harbouring ambitions of winning silverware before he calls time on his career, a switch to Bayern Munich would help him achieve his goal going on their dominance in the Bundesliga over the past decade or so. But would winning a Bundesliga title or two mean more than either winning a trophy with Tottenham or breaking Alan Shearer's all-time Premier League goal record?

Ask that question to a number of football fans and the answer would undoubtedly be 'no'. A move to the Allianz Arena would increase his chances of getting his hands on Europe's top prize, though, with Bayern always in the running for the Champions League trophy.

It would have to be some bid from Bayern for Levy to accept, with the club needing to considerably increase the reported €70million (£60million) offer to even tempt the chairman into a decision. While you could see the temptation of Kane moving to Real Madrid if the chance was presented to him, Bayern Munich, albeit one of the biggest clubs on the planet, do not have the same pull as Los Blancos and a move to Germany would mean that Kane is no longer front and centre as the eyes of the world are very much on the English and Spanish leagues rather than the Bundesliga.

Hitting 30 Premier League goals for Tottenham last season, Shearer's all-time record is now very much within Kane's sight as he is only 47 goals behind the ex-Blackburn Rovers and Newcastle United man's tally of 260. The striker could close the gap by some way in 2023/24 given the attractive brand of football Tottenham will play under Postecoglou, providing of course that his stunning form from last campaign carries on into the new season.

Kane also has the chance to achieve the record by playing for just one Premier League club, thus highlighting why he could be tempted to remain at Tottenham for one more season before making a huge decision on his future next summer. Only Kane himself will know if Bayern Munich is the club for him, though.

One thing for sure is that the German club will have to seriously increase their offer if they want the Tottenham striker to be wearing a Bayern shirt come the start of August. Levy, of course, will make the final decision and Spurs fans will be praying that is the right one.
