England captain Harry Kane has changed tact this time around with speculation over his Tottenham future at the forefront, once again, but the free-scoring Londoner had already told Manchester United and Erik ten Hag what they want to hear.
With only 18 months left to run on his contract, Kane continues to be monitored by key figures at Old Trafford, while they plan to sign a new striker next summer. At that stage, it will be two years since a high-profile switch to Manchester City fell through.
City were priced out of that pursuit and waited 12 months before signing Erling Haaland instead, leaving Kane limited on options should he swap Tottenham for another Premier League club. Arsenal and Chelsea are, firmly, out of the question.

After scoring his 266th goal for Tottenham to move level with record holder Jimmy Greaves on Monday night, the England forward was pressed on his future. He dead-batted those responses, though, after going so public with his ambitions in 2021 when speaking to Gary Neville in their revealing Overlap episode.
As his wait for silverware goes on, Kane outlined what he wants in his career on that Overlap episode. In doing so, meanwhile, he gave United and Ten Hag another reason to pursue him this summer - declaring he can score even more goals as the records start to tumble.
He will surpass the late, great Greaves in the coming days, while Kane also finds himself level with United hero, Wayne Rooney, when it comes to the all-time charts for England on 53 goals.
In his wide-ranging chat with Neville at the height of interest from across the city, Kane said: "I feel like I've still got almost another career to play. I've got seven, eight years, of what I've already had in the Premier League, so I'm not rushing anything, I'm not desperate to do anything."
He continued: "I'm not afraid to say I want to be the best. I want to try and get to the level [Cristiano] Ronaldo and [Lionel] Messi got to. That's my ultimate goal, to be winning trophies season-in, season-out and scoring 50, 60, 70 goals season-in, season-out.
"I've still got so much more to give. I can produce better numbers than I'm producing at the moment."
While a certain Norwegian chap from the Etihad Stadium has taken centre stage this season, Kane has totted-up an impressive 16 goals in the Premier League from 21 games. He continues to produce numbers every single year and, yet, team trophies have eluded him throughout that time.
Without silverware since 2017 themselves, United are gunning to end their own hoodoo this campaign. If they are successful in that venture - and Kane and Tottenham fail - Ten Hag might just be able to convince Kane his arrived would be the catalyst for both to rekindle the glory days at Old Trafford.
