Harry Kane eyes Ballon d’Or as he speaks out on Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo comparisons

  • Harry Kane has spoken of his immense pride at being in contention for the Ballon d'Or in October following a remarkably prolific goalscoring campaign.
  • The 33-year-old Bayern Munich striker scored 73 goals for club and country last season, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's career-best tally of 69 and behind only Lionel Messi's record of 82 goals in a single campaign.
  • If Kane wins the prestigious honour, he will become only the fifth Englishman to do so—following Sir Stanley Matthews, Sir Bobby Charlton, Kevin Keegan and Michael Owen—and the first since Owen in 2001.
  • Speaking to TNT Sports, the England captain admitted he was amazed to see his single-season statistics alongside Messi and Ronaldo, whom he described as the two greatest players of his generation.
  • Although Kane is yet to score in Bayern Munich's opening two Bundesliga fixtures this season, he emphasised that he remains fully focused on continually raising his standards and improving his game.
