Harry Kane drops Spurs and Man Utd transfer hint in Mauricio Pochettino and Chelsea message

Harry Kane has congratulated Mauricio Pochettino on his appointment at Chelsea, but also hinted he may be staying at Spurs. The former Tottenham boss was unveiled as the Blues' head coach on Monday, signing an initial two-year contract with the option for a third.

Pochettino will officially start his role as manager on July 1, meaning he has a full pre-season to get his feet under the table and begin planning for next term. The 51-year-old has the difficult task of conducting a summer clear out at Cobham training ground this summer, while also sprucing up the side with exciting signings.

By taking the Chelsea job, Pochettino will also be faced by a wraith of angry Spurs supporters who had hoped that he would return to north London. Tottenham are still yet to appoint a new manager after the club parted ways with Antonio Conte in March.

Kane, who enjoyed a meteoric rise to superstardom under the Argentinean, was quizzed on his former boss' new job at Chelsea while at a Reuters event in New York. The England international replied: "Mauricio was an amazing manager for me.

"Great person, great, great coach. He helped me a lot to get to where I am now. So I’m really appreciative of him. Everyone has their career, everyone has their future.

"So all I can say is I wish him all the best. I hope he does well – just obviously not as well as us!"

While Kane's message might suggest that he's going to stay at Tottenham, he faces an uncertain future with his deal set to expire at the end of next season. Prior to the departure of Fabio Paratici in April, football.london understood that the Italian had made contact with Kane's entourage to discuss an extension.

It's believed that the Englishman is open to discussing a new contract but, as it stands, he's yet to put pen to paper. With a departure possible, he's courted the attention of some big clubs.

Chelsea and Manchester United have both been widely suggested as potential destinations, as have Real Madrid. Speaking on talkSPORT, Gabby Agbonlahor explained why Kane must leave Tottenham and what club he should join.

"Harry Kane’s got to leave in the summer, and if he doesn’t, and he signs a new deal, you’ve got to question Harry Kane," said the former Aston Villa striker. "If I’m him, I’m going to Manchester United. I’ll break Alan Shearer’s record by staying in the Premier League, he has to go.

"Why would he want to stay? I don’t understand. I know he loves Spurs, he’s broken the record there already for goals. But if you’re Harry Kane, you’re going away with England, and you’ve got players that have won a Champions League and banter about it, ‘oh what have you won?’

"Harry Kane will be thinking, ‘I’m probably the best player here, why am I not winning trophies’ – Harry Kane signing a new deal just doesn’t make sense to me."
