Harry Kane and the three Tottenham players in line for prize after tough season

Tottenham Hotspur's season of struggle comes to a close this weekend with their match at Leeds United and it's time to reflect on which players have managed to shine through the gloom.

Spurs have gone through head coaches galore with Antonio Conte, Cristian Stellini and Ryan Mason all taking charge of the team at various points of their campaign. The club have gone from top four contenders to having their Europa Conference League qualification hopes out of their hands on the final day.

Many of Tottenham squad have struggled for form but a select few have managed to gain some plaudits over the long difficult season. We asked our Spurs correspondents Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest to pick four of them who they would put in the running for football.london's Tottenham player of the season award.

Here are their explanations for their four choices and then at the bottom you can select which of their nominations should claim the prize.

Harry Kane

Harry Kane should be walking away with this prize because for anyone to score 28 Premier League goals in this season within this mess of a Tottenham side. During this campaign he's become the club's and England's all-time top goalscorer and has risen to become the second-highest goalscorer in the Premier League's history, shattering other records along the way. He's a wonderful player and Spurs will want to keep him at all costs.

Rodrigo Bentancur

The biggest indication of how good a season Rodrigo Bentancur had was just how much Spurs are missing his presence in the midfield. The Uruguayan had reached new heights with his all-round game, with six goals and two assists and some big performances just when Tottenham needed him the most, saving them with a string of late strikes. That Spurs have missed out on top four football is as much about losing the marauding midfielder from the centre of their team to his cruciate ligament injury in February as it has been about any other problems within the squad.

Emerson Royal

Struggling at right wing-back at the beginning of the season and jeered off the pitch during Tottenham's win over Leeds in November, things didn't look promising at all for Emerson Royal but he has really stepped up in 2023. Contributing with goals and big performances against Man City and West Ham, the player has also impressed with the defensive side of his game and demonstrated that he has a big role to play in the future.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg

Needing more goals and assists from midfield heading into the season, Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg has so far contributed with five goals and seven assists from 44 appearances this term. Some of those have proved crucial, most notably his late winner against Marseille in the Champions League. He maybe hasn't maintained the same levels he managed in the opening months of the campaign but he has more than played his part and bettered his numbers from 2021/22.
