Harry Kane and Cody Gakpo transfer verdict given as Man United eye Cristiano Ronaldo replacement

Former England manager Sven-Goran Eriksson has stated that Harry Kane is the perfect fit for Manchester United as they look to replace Cristiano Ronaldo. Following the Portuguese's controversial departure last month, the Red Devils are now one short in attack and could look to fill the gap come the January transfer window.

PSV ace Cody Gakpo, who has wowed at the World Cup for Netherlands with three goals, has been linked with a switch to Old Trafford with an Eredivisie exit looking likely in 2023 following his goalscoring exploits. Despite talk of the Dutchman moving to Erik ten Hag's team, Eriksson believes that Kane is the profile of striker United need at present even though a move from Tottenham could be "impossible".

"Gakpo would be very good for the Premier League and I’m certain he wouldn’t need that much time to adapt to the Premier League," said the Swede when speaking to Betway. "The thing is that many clubs will have been watching him thirty or forty times.

"Ronaldo has gone now and Manchester United need an out and out number nine and Harry Kane seems the perfect fit. Kane could be impossible but they have to get something similar. Right now I don’t think Gakpo is the profile they need."

With Gakpo hitting three goals at the World Cup in Qatar, Kane has so far yet to find the net for his country despite England hitting nine goals from their first three games. Enduring a barren run in the Euro 2020 group stage last year before exploding into action, Eriksson is confident that the goals will start to come for the Tottenham ace as England look to go far in the competition.

"I think Phil Foden and Marcus Rashford have both earnt the right to start the next game. But Gareth Southgate is so lucky as he has Harry Kane," admitted the 74-year-old. "He hasn’t scored yet but he will, but whoever is by his side it won’t make a difference as there’s so many good players there."
