Prince William and Kate Middleton became a family of four when little Princess Charlotte was born on May 2, 2015 - almost 8 years ago exactly.
Her birth came just under two years after the birth of their first child Prince George. Their 'family unit' left Prince Harry feeling 'displaced' by Kate and the kids after his relationship with William broke down after he began his married life, according to royal author, Tina Brown.
The author of The Palace Papers cited a former aide who claimed that the brothers' “relationship hadn’t been the same since William married Kate,” and their distance grew even further following the birth of Princess Charlotte, the Express reports.
In her book, she wrote: “Though they were still ‘incredibly close, living next door to each other [at KP], sharing the same office, and hanging out an awful lot,’ but claimed Harry “mourned his us-against-the-world bond with William”.
In May 2015, the-then Cambridges welcomed their daughter into the world with Kate making it evident she was eager to have more.
Brown alleged in her book: “Harry felt displaced by their bougie family unit, and couldn’t understand his brother’s obsession with his Middleton in-laws, whose Bucklebury world bored Harry to tears.
“The Cambridges had become a tight unit, and William a full-on Windsor country bumpkin. On weekends when he wasn’t chez Middleton, he was tramping the grounds of Anmer Hall, the red-brick Georgian mansion on the Sandringham Estate that the Queen gave the couple as a wedding present, wearing a flat cap and tweed jacket like his ‘turnip toff’ Norfolk farmer friends."
The author continued: “For his part, William felt that Harry’s unabated Jack the Lad behaviour was getting tiresome. He was less amused than the British public by either the strip billiards debacle in Las Vegas or Harry’s ceaseless boozy nightclub forays with his rowdy friends. His younger brother’s recklessness exasperated him.”
In the early years of Kate and William's marriage, the Palace had urged the 'royal trio' to do things together and they would often be seen carrying out official engagements and attending events as a team.
However, as the Prince and Princess of Wales' family grew, their time with Harry became less frequent. Ms Brown claimed it became “awkward for Harry,” quoting a friend of the Prince’s as saying: “Much though he loved Kate, he would just find himself looking like a third wheel.”
The Duke of Sussex revealed the reality of the relationship with his brother and sister-in-law in his bombshell memoir Spare. After Kate and William were wed in April 2011, Harry claims the royal couple were given more staff, more cars, a larger residence and a more imposing office.
Despite insisting that he 'wasn't bothered' about their new found benefits, he said the 'respect' side of things mattered to him and claimed he felt like an outsider and a 'non-person' because he was a bachelor.
Harry's controversial book, which is named after his destined role within the Royal Family as the 'spare heir' details his damaged relationship with his brother.
For years, it was portrayed that the two siblings shared a tight brotherly bond and that their problems had began after Harry started dating his now-wife, Meghan Markle.
However, it was revealed that William and Harry's relationship had not been great for some time with their 'royal rift' dating back further than both the Duke of Sussex's wedding and the Prince of Wales.
Now after years of very public feuds between the two, their relationship is believed to be at an all-time low.
Next week, the brothers will come face to face with one another publicly at their father's Coronation for the first time since the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II
Although the Duke of Sussex has requested a 'reconciliation' with his both his father and brother, it is widely believed that the Coronation weekend is not the suitable time or place.
It's understood that the Princes have not communicated with one another since Spare was released in January with True Royalty TV editor-in-chief Nick Bullen telling the Royally Us podcast there has been “radio silence” between the princes.
