As the royal couples made their way into St George's Chapel for the Queen's committal service, Prince William had to hold back Kate Middleton, as well as children Prince George and Princess Charlotte, to let Prince Harry and Meghan Markle take their seats. The two royal brothers had an exchange about the funeral seating and discussed where they would sit in the pews, lip reading experts have revealed.
During the second service in Windsor, William followed the 1st Battalion Grenadier Guards and walked past the catafalque, leading his eldest children - George, nine, and Charlotte, seven, to the front pew to take their seats. The Prince of Wales made a gesture to his wife Kate to step back and give the seats to both Harry and his wife Meghan first.
Talking to the Daily Mail, lip reader Jacqui Press explained what Harry appeared to ask William as he approached him.
Jacqui revealed the younger sibling asked his older brother: "Shall we go through first?"
William was seen stopping George and Charlotte from walking, then gestured Kate to wait with them too.
Lip reading expert Jeremy Freeman told Daily Star what the heir to the throne said to his wife while holding her back.
The heir to the throne was thought to have instructed Kate: "Let them go first."
Kate then looked up at Meghan and took a step back, allowing room for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex to move past.
The Prince of Wales gestured to his family to follow them, as Kate tapped on Charlotte's back and said: "You go now."
Charlotte sat between her uncle Harry and her mother Kate, with George next to her and his father William.
It's the first time that William and Kate's kids have been seen in public since their great-grandmother's death.
It's understood the royal couple thought long and hard while having discussions with the children before deciding they would attend.
Kate made sure her young children were always nearby and felt comforted throughout the difficult day.
Kate could be seen placing a tender hand on her daughter's shoulder as the pair exited the car, and as they approached other people, while Charlotte nervously flipped her hair.
The Princess was then captured guiding Charlotte past the 2,000 guests - including politicians, world leaders and celebrities - with a reassuring hand on her back.
It wasn't just Kate and William who comforted the young mourning children, at one point, Princess Harry briefly looked up and caught the eye of his niece in St George's Chapel, then smiled.
Meghan Markle was also seen sharing a comforting smile with Charlotte as the royal family left Westminster Abbey.
