Prince Harry and Meghan Markle would have been among the first royals to learn of Princess Eugenie's pregnancy, according to an expert.
The 32-year-old, who is a cousin of Harry's, shared a sweet family photograph of her son August kissing her bump to announce she is expecting her second child with husband Jack Brooksbank.
Buckingham Palace said the royal family is "delighted" and that August is "very much" looking forward to becoming a big brother.
The baby will be born 13th in line to the throne and he or she will be the first of the Queen’s great-grandchildren to be born since her death.
Harry is known to be extremely close to Eugenie - and it appears she is the only royal to have visited him and Meghan in California since they quit the UK.
She was also the only royal to make a cameo appearance in their controversial docuseries, which dropped on Netflix last month.
And according to royal expert and editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine Ingrid Seward, Harry and Meghan would have been very much across Eugenie's news.
She told the Mirror: "The Duke and Duchess of Sussex would have been amongst the first to hear the news of Eugenie’s pregnancy.
"Meghan and Harry are close with Eugenie – and not only has she stayed with them in California, but they have been on holidays together before Harry’s marriage.
"If the Sussexes come to the coronation in May, there will be an added incentive to see Eugenie as by then it is doubtful if she will want to travel herself."
Meanwhile, Ingrid also believes that Eugenie's "cheerful" announcement will be a welcome distraction for the royal family amid the continued fall-out from Prince Harry's memoir Spare.
She added: "Royal babies have always provided positive news especially when everything around us is so troubled.
"Eugenie’s first-born son August Philip Hawke who is 12th in line to the throne is almost two years old and mature enough to understand and be excited about what is going on.
"He is probably a delightful handful like little boys of that age and will be gaining daily independence from his mother and father. So the idea of having a new playmate will be something to look forward to.
"Eugenie and Jack are lucky enough to have moved to Portugal into the Costa Terra Golf and Ocean Club where Jack is working on the marketing of a luxurious development of 300 homes for tycoon Mike Meldman.
"It is a magical place to bring up children and when they return to the UK they have the use of the Duke of York’s residence Royal Lodge in Windsor Great Park or possibly as reported, Prince Harry ’s previous home, Nottingham Cottage.
"Having spent Christmas at Wood Farm on the Sandringham estate and been around the King and Queen Consort I am certain that King Charles and Queen Camilla will be wishing Princess Eugenie, who is fortunate enough to have a Norland trained nanny already in situ, all the very best."
