Harry and Meghan should 'respect own privacy, but there's slim chance of that'

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle "should respect their own privacy, but there's a slim chance of that happening", according to a royal insider.

It has been reported that the rest of the Firm have "no intention" of seeing the Duke and Duchess of Sussex during their brief return to the UK this week.

That's despite the couple staying at Frogmore Cottage on the Windsor estate, just a mile from Prince William and Kate Middleton's new home, Adelaide Cottage.

Harry and Meghan arrived in Britain on Saturday for the first time since appearing at the Queen's Platinum Jubilee celebrations at the start of June.

The royals are bracing themselves for further bombshells in Harry’s upcoming memoir after Meghan’s dramatic 6,400-word article with the US magazine The Cut.

In it, she suggested Harry felt his bond with his father Prince Charles was over following his decision to quit his public duties in March 2020.

She said: "Harry said to me, 'I lost my dad in this process'. That's his decision."

Royal sources suggested the Prince of Wales would be “saddened” if his estranged son did indeed feel as though their relationship was damaged beyond repair.

The Sussexes’ biographer Omid Scobie later claimed the Duchess had been misquoted.

The couple were in attendance at the opening of the One Young World Summit in Manchester this evening in which Meghan gave her first public speech in the UK since relocating to the US.

She told a group of young future leaders: "You are the future and also the present", during her first public speech in the UK since quitting the royal family.

The event brings together young leaders from more than 190 countries.

The couple kicked off their mini-European tour in the north west just days after Meghan unleashed against the royals in her explosive American magazine interview, where she railed about her brief time as a member of the royal family and warned she could “say anything” now she had left The Firm.

In her address, Meghan commented how “it is very nice to be back in the UK” before telling a series of stories about her involvement with the organisation.

The former Suits actress, also a counsellor for the global youth charity organisation, told the attendees: "You are the ones driving the positive and necessary change across the globe now, in this very moment.

"And for that I am so grateful to be in your company today."

The Duke and Duchess were greeted to a mixture of cheers and boos as they arrived at the Bridgewater Hall venue from the city’s luxury Kimpton Hotel.

The couple, who dramatically quit their royal roles in 2020 in favour of seeking mega money deals in the corporate world, were chauffeur driven in an electric Range Rover from their home to London’s Euston station, where they were whisked in a side entrance by private security.

They are understood to have made no plans to see the Queen or any members of the royal family due to apparent concerns over security.

Tomorrow the couple travel to Dusseldorf to launch the one year countdown to Harry’s Invictus Games in Germany next year, before both attending the WellChild charity awards in London on Thursday.

The Mirror yesterday revealed how Prince Charles had also extended an open invitation to the couple for them to stay with him, which was once again dismissed.

Following on from the former pop star and activist Sir Bob Geldof, who delivered a challenging speech on the failures of political leaders from across the world, telling the youngsters: “Please don't turn out to be a creep”, Meghan relayed a story of how she was invited to the 2014 delegation, when she was an unknown actress in the US television series Suits.

She said: “It was several years ago in 2014 that I was first invited to be a counsellor at One Young World.

“And in many ways at the time, I was probably a lot like each of you - young, ambitious, advocating for the things I deeply and profoundly believed in - and also looking around and wondering how on earth did I get here?

“Have any of you today so far have that feeling that pinch me moment where you just go, ‘how am I here?’.

“It's a lot and at that dinner there were about 20 to 30 of us counsellors, and there it was, I was a girl from Suits.”

Meghan continued: “And I was surrounded by world leaders, humanitarians, prime ministers and activists that I had such a deep and long standing respect and admiration for - and I was invited to pull up a seat at the table.

“I was so overwhelmed by this experience, I think, I even saved my little paper place card that said my name on it.

“Just proof that I was there and proof that I belonged.”
