Harry and Meghan have “heard nothing” from Buckingham Palace about plans to celebrate King Charles’s 75th birthday, the couple’s spokesperson has said amid reports of a new family rift over the plans.
The King will reportedly celebrate the big day on November 14 with a party at Clarence House for family and friends.
The Sunday Times claimed at the weekend that Harry had turned down an invitation in a snub to his father and would stay at home in California instead.
However a spokesperson for the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said the couple had heard nothing about the planned celebration, according to a MailOnline report on Tuesday.
They said: “There has been no contact regarding an invitation to His Majesty’s upcoming birthday.”
A source close to the couple said Harry would “find a way” to wish his father happy birthday.
A spokesperson for Buckingham Palace declined to comment, saying the Palace does not comment on personal family matters.
Sources close to the King have consistently said Charles has kept the door open to his son and family after Harry and Meghan quit as working royals and moved to California.
But the relationship has been severely tested after the couple appeared in an interview with Oprah Winfrey, which included claims of racist behaviour by an unnamed royal, and the subsequent publication of Harry’s memoir which laid bare rows with his brother.
Harry admitted to having “complex feelings” about his step-mother and accused her and Charles of planting stories in the press to make her look better at his expense.
But despite the bad blood Harry did attend the King’s coronation – flying in from America - and in his first speech after taking the throne, Charles went out of his way to “express my love for Harry and Meghan as they continue to build their lives overseas”.
