Harry and Meghan's media empire may be 'imploding' as Netflix has 'grown tired' of royals

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry are in danger of their entire media empire "imploding" as Netflix has "grown tired" of the royals, according to reports.

Last week, the couple saw their huge £18m Spotify deal come to an end which saw Meghan's award winning podcast Archetypes being axed after just one season.

Rumours are now circulating about what the couple will do next with previous reports suggesting they could sign a new fashion deal with Dior although these claims have now been shut down by a spokesperson for the fashion house.

Journalist and author Damien Reilly believes this may be the "end of the road" for the Duke and Duchesses' reputation and business plans, the Express reports.

Meghan and Harry released their bombshell Netflix docuseries last year as a part of their £78m deal (Netflix)

New reports suggest that Netflix could be following in the same footsteps as Spotify and might axe their £78m ($100m) deal with Harry and Meghan.

The news comes after Bill Simmons, Head of Podcast Innovation at the streaming giant slammed the couple over the fractured deal as he dubbed them as "f****** grifters".

As a part of their Netflix deal, the couple released their bombshell docuseries 'Harry and Meghan' at the end of last year which was about everything going on in their lives since they stepped down as senior royals in March 2020.

Writing for the Spectator, Mr Reilly spoke of the infamous South Park episode earlier this year that mocked the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and explained why it had been a turning point for the couple's media reputation.

He said in the past the couple had been "able to write off the endless criticism" before they were "mercilessly savaged by the coolest kids in Tinseltown".

He added: "It’s hard not to feel a little sympathy for Meghan, not least because it feels like the end of the road, reputationally.

"First, she enraged large sections of the public in the UK with her antics, but then she left, seemingly for the promise of being better understood, and therefore more free, in America.

"But history seems to be repeating itself. Now increasingly she is being openly mocked for what is perceived to be the grift, swindle, of monetizing, and using for social advancement, the supposed horrors of a life of unimaginable royal privilege."

Rumours have recently been swirling that the couple could sign a deal with Dior with Meghan as the face of the brand due to the Duke and Duchess being spotted in the fashion brand's outfits on a number of high profile occasions.

For example, Harry wore a custom suit designed by Dior's artistic director Kim Jones to his father King Charles' historical Coronation last month.

Meghan also wore head-to-toe Dior to the National Service of Thanksgiving last summer during the Platinum Jubilee celebrations as well as a dress by the designer to Archie's christening, Queen Elizabeth II's funeral and several other royal occasions.

However, while Mr Reilly said there could be a "way to rebrand successfully" for the couple, he added that "it's hard to imagine how that might be successful".

Dior itself has denied there being any contract negotiations or talks with Meghan about a collaboration.

A source told the Telegraph : "The Duchess of Sussex is not in talks to sign a deal with Dior. There is no truth to the claims that she will partner with the French fashion house."

Mr Reilly said it is perhaps time for the Sussexes to follow in the footsteps of the rest of the Royal Family with their approach to the media.

He said: "Perhaps it begins with a lengthy period of silence and unheralded dedication to unglamorous worthy causes: ironically enough, pretty much exactly what is expected of a member of the British Royal Family.

"It might be the duller option, but it’s at least harder to satirize."
