Harry and Meghan rumoured to make talk show debut days after Netflix documentary launches

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will make their talk show debut next week, according to reports - as the second half of their Netflix docu-series drops on the platform.

The couple are rumoured to make an appearance on US programme The Tonight Show, hosted by Jimmy Fallon, on Thursday (December 15). The Duke and Duchess of Sussex dropped the first three episodes of their bombshell docu-series, called Harry & Meghan, this morning (Thursday December 8).

The official Twitter account for The Tonight Show tweeted: "Guess who’s making their talk show debut next Thursday? We'll give you a hint," alongside a tiara and shirt and tie emoji. Former Suits actress Meghan had previously been announced as a guest on the programme before her pal and biographer Omid Scoobie later suggested this was an error, reports the Mirror.

It had been claimed she would be appearing on the New York-based talk show on December 7, with Omid later writing: "someone at NBC didn't get the memo", before suggesting Meghan had no intentions of being on the show.

"Despite an announcement via their various PR channels, Meghan isn't scheduled to appear on The Tonight Show," he added. Meanwhile, a representative for NBC said: "Earlier today, it was inaccurately reported that Meghan, The Duchess of Sussex would be appearing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon on December 7."

The highly-anticipated Netflix show, billed as 'unprecedented and in-depth', is airing exactly three months after the death of Harry’s grandmother the late Queen, with the Windsors still grieving and the King less than 100 days into his reign.

The first three episodes, which are each just under an hour long, explore Harry's childhood as a young royal, his relationship with his late mother Princess Diana and his feelings towards the paparazzi. It also details how his and Meghan's relationship blossomed - from meeting on Instagram and taking a romantic trip to Africa, to sneaking the actress into Kensington Palace.

Harry, in a trailer, warned: “We know the full truth” and spoken of a 'hierarchy in the family,' a 'dirty game' and 'leaking' and 'planting of stories.' The second half of the series will air on Netflix next week, on Thursday December 15.

Harry and Meghan plunged the monarchy into crisis with their bombshell interview with Oprah Winfrey in March 2021, while the Duke of Edinburgh was in hospital. The duke and duchess accused an unnamed member of the family of racism towards their son Archie before he was born, and the institution of failing to help the suicidal duchess.

The couple quit as senior working royals in 2020 in favour of more freedom and the ability to earn their own money in the US. Harry said he felt let down by his father and that “there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened” in their relationship.

His longstanding rift with William has continued. The brothers fell out over what Harry perceived to be William’s “snobbish” attitude to his bride, it was claimed.

In the aftermath of the Oprah broadcast, the Queen issued a statement saying “while some recollections may vary”, the issues would be taken “very seriously”, but dealt with privately as a family.
