Prince Harry and Meghan Markle have secretly laid out a year of making amendments with the royal family.
However, the plan won't happen until Harry's upcoming memoir is published and the couple's Netflix docuseries is released.
The pair, who live in California, had wanted to gain favour with the Queen as well next year until the monarch died in September, according to The Sun.
Royal insiders claim Harry and Meghan have always steered clear of criticising the Queen out of respect for her.
But now they are keen on making changes to both the memoir and TV series due to being overly critical to King Charles and the Queen Consort, which could end any chance of a reconciliation, according to reports.
Harry and Meghan have ended relations with the reportedly belligerent Hollywood PR company Sunshine Sachs and came in for criticism after calling out Charles' parenting skills and making racism claims during the Oprah Winfrey interview in 2021.
Sources told the Sun that 2023 will be the couple's "reconciliation year with the previous year labelled their “era of visibility”.
They added: "Clearly, this reconciliation attempt would never work if they have been critical of the new monarch, or both."
Royal author Robert Jobson described the couple as "very calculating" whose timing had "misfired again".
He went on to criticise them for carrying out the infamous interview with Oprah Winfrey while Prince Philip was days away from dying.
Mr Jobson added that Harry should remind himself that he is in now dealing with the head of state and not "just dad".
He said: "If they disrespect The King, they are not only disrespecting the man, but also the institution.”
