Harry and Meghan forced to 'strike deal' with King Charles or fork out for hotels in UK

Prince Harry and Meghan Markle will now have to reach a "private agreement" with King Charles III if they want to stay at any royal residences in the future.

The couple once lived at Frogmore Cottage in Windsor but were served an eviction notice six months ago, close to the release of Prince Harry's memoir Spare.

And it has been reported today that Prince Harry, 38, and Meghan, 41, have now moved the last of their possessions out of the property and handed the keys back to the Royal Family.

They are understood to no longer have a home in the UK as a result and are expected to have to rely on family, friends or hotels during any future visits to the UK.

It's now been claimed that they would need to reach an agreement with King Charles, 74, to stay at royal residences following their departure from the UK.

Reports in The Sun say that the couple would have to reach a "private agreement" with King Charles if they wanted to stay at any royal residences in the future.

The outlet suggest there are tensions within the family following the Netflix series Harry & Meghan and the release of Prince Harry's memoir Spare earlier this year.

They were served an eviction notice for Frogmore Cottage just days after the book's publication in January, with them now said to have moved everything out.

Their remaining possessions are said to have been shipped to their home in California and their former residence looks set to be rented out following their exit.

Yesterday, courtier Sir Michael Stevens said about the couple's departure: "We can confirm that the Duke and Duchess of Sussex have vacated Frogmore Cottage."

He added that the property has undergone renovation in recent years, with him further commenting earlier this week: "Thus leaving the Crown with a greatly enhanced asset."

According to reports, it isn't the only residence within the family that is vacant, as several royal properties are said to now be empty, amid renewed scrutiny of royal spending.

Prince Harry and Meghan's six-part docuseries for Netflix launched in December last year. The episodes were released in two volumes by the streaming platform at the time.

His memoir Spare - which like the docuseries attracted much attention around the time of its release - was released in January this year and reportedly broke records.
