Prince Harry and Meghan Markle are facing a "lose-lose situation" with King Charles' Coronation and risk "being booed by the British public" if they decide to attend.
A PR expert has said the couple would also have a "frosty" reception from the Royal Family, but could face "losing their relevance" if they snub the historic event.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are still yet to announce whether they will attend the Coronation, despite it being less than a month away.
However, it has been reported that organisers have been told to plan as if they pair will attend.
Royal commentator Hilary Fordwich said she believes Harry and Meghan won't be welcomed by the public as a result of the fallout from their Netflix docuseries and Harry's tell-all memoir Spare.
"The dilemma facing Harry and Meghan is that of a lose-lose situation. On the one hand, if they do accept their invitation the likelihood of being booed by the British public, whom they threw under the bus, is highly likely," she said.
Harry made a number of shocking revelations in Spare, including details of his fractured relationship with his family.
"These will no doubt also mean the couple will have a frosty, at best, reception from hard working senior royals and the extended royal family," Hilary told the Express.
However, she also warned that Harry and Meghan could damage their career if they don't attend the Coronation.
"If they don't accept, and use the plausible 'out' of the Coronation falling on the same day as their son Prince Archie's fourth birthday, then they are losing their relevance and money making potential."
Ultimately, Hilary said the likelihood of Harry going to the Coronation is high as it is "the most important day in his father's life".
Harry is said to have lots of legitimate concerns about the event, such as his family's safety, their roles on the day and how Archie's birthday will be celebrated.
However, according to The Times, the Sussexes are set to reveal their intentions "within days".
Plans for the Coronation have been revealed and show how the Crown Jewels will play a starring role during the religious service on May 6.
Charles will be crowned with the 17th-century St Edward’s Crown, which has been resized for him, before switching to the the lighter Imperial State Crown at the end of the ceremony, as per custom.
