A man in his 80s was held by police after an Audi 4x4 ploughed into five people in Harrow town centre.
Shocking footage shows at least three people being treated by police officers with one lying underneath the car as desperate passers-by fetch blankets for the victims after the incident about 6.10pm on Thursday.
The black Audi came to a stop after hitting a concrete road block in St Anne’s Road.
An elderly man was seen being questioned by police as he sits on a bench next to the crash.
A child’s scooter was crushed underneath the front wheel but police say all five pedestrians were adults and suffered non life-changing injuries.
Eyewitness Priya Starkey was coming out of the cinema and walking with a friend in the same direction as the car when she saw the crash.
She told the Standard: “It was very shocking. There was a crowd of people around the car, everyone was being silent and it was just security there.
“There was a car mounted on the pavement so badly it had lifted the floor. All the bollards keeping people safe were messed up.
“It was very disturbing seeing innocent people on the floor. The security guard was begging people not to film. I prayed for the people and then left.
“It was very upsetting and distressing to me.”
A Scotland Yard spokesman said the crash was not being treated as an act of terrorism and there were no arrests.
He said: “Police were called to to reports of a car being involved in a collision with a group of pedestrians.
“It is understood that five people, all adults, have sustained injuries and have been treated by emergency workers. At this early stage their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening or life-changing.”
