Harrison Sohna on target but Sunderland U23s lose at home to Wolves U23

Wolves U23s came from behind to beat Sunderland at Eppleton - and leapfrog the Black Cats in the Premier League 2 table in the process.

Harrison Sohna gave Sunderland the lead on the quarter-hour, but Chem Campbell levelled ten minutes later.

And Campbell completed the turnaround just before the hour as he found the net for the second time in the game.

That made it back-to-back defeats for Mike Dodds' youngsters, who had lost their previous game at Middlesbrough last Sunday.

And it meant that Sunderland and Wolves swapped places in the table, with the Black Cats dropping to tenth spot.

Dodds' starting XI included Arbenit Xhemajli and Benji Kimpioka, both of whom were unused subs for the first team against Portsmouth on Saturday.

He also named two trialists on the bench, Chester-le-Street United winger Michael Spellman and Leatherhead left-back Ugonna Emenike.

Spellman was given a 20-minute run-out and showed flashed of skill, but Emenike was an unused sub.

Sunderland took the lead on 14 minutes, catching Wolves out at the back.

Sohna intercepted a sloppy pass out of defence and advanced into the box where he had only the keeper to beat, and he made no mistake.

Wolves went close to an equaliser just a couple of minutes later, Jacob Carney doing well to push a shot from Campbell out for a corner.

But the visitors did level on 24 minutes when they won a free-kick just outside the right edge of the box, and it was played in low to Campbell who had time inside the area to take a touch before firing home.

A goalline clearance from Dexter Lembikisa prevented Caden Kelly putting Sunderland back in front almost immediately, and Tyrese Dyce flashed a shot across the face of goal ten minutes before the break.

A mistake by Zak Johnson on the edge of his own penalty area let in Chiquinho, but Carney made a an excellent block to keep Sunderland on terms.

Lee Harkin had the ball in the net just after half-time, but the Wolves man was flagged offside.

Wolves went in front on 57 minutes when Johnson gave the ball away to Campbell as Sunderland tried to play out from the back, he fed it to Luke Cundle whose shot was saved by Carney, but Campbell was on hand to apply the finish.

Sunderland pushed forward looking for an equaliser in the final half-hour but struggled to carve out clear-cut chances against Wolves' well-organised back line.
