Harrison Ashby profiled as Leeds United reportedly eye West Ham right-back

Leeds United are reportedly targeting a late move for young West Ham right back Harrison Ashby, according to Alan Nixon. He claims that the Whites are pushing hardest ahead of Newcastle United as they look to beat the deadline to add to their defensive options.

Ashby would reportedly be open to a move to Elland Road, though West Ham are reluctant to let him leave due to defensive injuries to the likes of Ben Johnson. Leeds’ interest in a new right back comes as a bit of a surprise given their shortage currently lays on the other side of defence.

Jesse Marsch currently has Rasmus Kristensen, Luke Ayling and Cody Drameh at his disposal at right back, but Junior Firpo is the club’s only recognised left back above under 18s level. That said, here is a look at everything you need to know on Ashby.

Ashby is a Scotland Under-21s international and has already made six appearances for West Ham’s first team. The 20-year-old progressed through the ranks of the Hammers’ academy and has developed into a promising attacking full back.

In 36 appearances for their U21s, he has netted three goals and provided nine assists. Four of Ashby’s six games in the senior side have come from the start, including the club’s 3-1 Europa Conference League win over Viborg earlier this month.

Ashby has also been linked with a move to Newcastle in recent days, while Preston North End are also chasing a loan deal.
