The Harris campaign and the Democratic National Committee have joined forces to launch a new initiative aimed at mobilizing young voters in key battleground states. This initiative comes in anticipation of the upcoming November election and is part of a broader effort to engage and empower young voters.
To coincide with National Voter Registration Day, the campaign and DNC have announced a “Youth Week of Action” designed to encourage young voters to register to vote. The initiative includes a range of activities such as organizing on college campuses, utilizing paid media, and hosting events with prominent figures like Gov. Tim Walz to ensure that every eligible voter has the opportunity to participate in the democratic process.
As part of the initiative, top surrogates will be deployed to various locations, with events planned at Penn State University and a Climate Voters for Harris-Walz event in Durham, North Carolina. Over 130 youth voter registration events are scheduled to take place throughout the week, highlighting the campaign's commitment to engaging young voters.
In addition to targeting young voters, the initiative will focus on reaching out to Black and Latino students at Historically Black Colleges and Universities and Hispanic-Serving Institutions. The campaign aims to raise awareness about key issues affecting these communities, such as the potential impact of policies like “Trump’s Project 2025,” which could have significant consequences for student debt relief, reproductive rights, and funding for educational institutions.
Furthermore, the DNC has introduced the National Voter Assistance Text Line, a resource available in both English and Spanish to provide voters with the information they need to register to vote. This initiative underscores the importance of accessibility and inclusivity in the voter registration process.
The collaboration between the Harris campaign and the DNC reflects a concerted effort to engage young voters and ensure that their voices are heard in the upcoming election. By leveraging a range of strategies and resources, the initiative aims to empower young voters and encourage active participation in the democratic process.
