A recent poll conducted by the Pew Research Center has revealed a close competition between Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump in the upcoming presidential race. The poll indicates that there is no clear leader nationally, with Harris garnering 46% of support from registered voters, closely followed by Trump at 45%. Additionally, 7% of voters expressed their support for Robert F. Kennedy Jr.
The survey, which was conducted from August 5 to 11 and involved 7,569 registered voters, highlighted a significant shift from previous polling data. Notably, Harris seems to have energized Democratic voters, with a surge in support compared to the previous poll conducted in July.
One of the key findings of the poll is the strong backing both Harris and Trump have from their supporters. Around 64% of Trump supporters and 62% of Harris supporters stated that they strongly support their chosen candidate. This marks a notable increase from the previous poll, where only 43% of Biden supporters expressed strong support.
The survey also revealed that most of Harris' gains have come at the expense of Kennedy, with a majority of Biden's former supporters now backing Harris. On the other hand, Trump has managed to retain most of his supporters from the previous poll.
Furthermore, the poll highlighted Harris' improved performance among various voter subgroups compared to Biden, with stable support for Trump. For instance, Harris has gained significant support from female voters, Black voters, and voters under the age of 30.
Overall, the poll results suggest a highly competitive race between Harris and Trump, with both candidates enjoying strong support from their respective voter bases. The margin of sampling error for the survey results is +/- 1.4 percentage points.
