Hardik Patel quits Congress with ‘chicken sandwich’ barb

AHMEDABAD: Gujarat Congress’s working president and Patidar agitation spearhead Hardik Patel ended his lately tenuous three-year association with the party on Wednesday through a no-holds-barred letter to Sonia Gandhi, expressing dismay at colleagues in the state focusing more on serving “chicken sandwich” to delegations from Delhi than issues of public importance.

The 28-year-old alleged that it was almost as if the party didn’t want to do anything good for Gujarat. At the national level, its role was restricted to creating roadblocks at a time when the country was seeking solutions to various issues such as the Ram Janmabhoomi-Babri Masjid title suit in Ayodhya, nullification of Article 370 and implementation of GST, he said.
