Har Ghar Tiranga: BJP’s allies, opposition skip changing social media DP to tricolour

NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday changed the display picture (DP) of the accounts on his social media platforms to the tricolour and exhorted all to follow suit as part of the ongoing ‘Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav’ (grand celebrations for 75 years of independence). While Union ministers, BJP leaders, chief ministers and ministers of BJP-ruled states, party supporters and even government departments changed their DP to the national flag, others did not oblige. In effect, the initiative has got confined to being a BJP event.

In the 91st episode of his monthly ‘Mann ki Baat’ radio programme on July 31, the prime minister had floated the idea of changing the DP to the tricolour. It was an extension of the original plan to implement ‘Har Ghar Tiranga’ plan under which an appeal has been made to hoist the national flag in all houses of the country from August 13 to Independence Day on August 15.
