Hapur CCTV Clip Sparks Debate Over Alleged Temple Tap Theft

The video first surfaced on X through the account @gharkekalesh and quickly gained traction across multiple social media platforms. According to details shared online, the man seen in the footage was wearing a Zomato T-shirt and arrived at the spot on a motorcycle around 1 am.

Rider Allegedly Removes Temple Water Tap

In the viral CCTV footage, the delivery rider is seen stopping near water taps placed outside a temple. Within moments, he allegedly unscrews one of the taps and places it inside his delivery box before leaving the location.

The caption accompanying the viral post read:

“Hapur: Delivery boy caught on CCTV stealing a water tap from outside a temple on Delhi Road (Nagar Kotwali). He stopped, unscrewed it & fled.”

The unusual nature of the incident quickly drew public attention, with many users sharing the clip and discussing the broader issues surrounding the act.

Reports Claim Second Attempt Was Made

As per information circulating online, the same individual reportedly returned to the spot nearly 20 minutes later, around 1:20 am. Social media users claimed he attempted to remove another tap during the second visit as well.

However, according to these reports, the second attempt was unsuccessful and the rider eventually left the area.

No official statement regarding the incident or the identity of the individual had been widely circulated at the time the video gained popularity online.

Social Media Reacts With Mixed Opinions

The viral clip has divided social media users, with reactions ranging from criticism to sympathy.

Several users strongly condemned the alleged theft of public property and called for strict action. One user commented that stealing public property should be treated as a punishable offence, adding that such incidents become difficult to control if ignored.

Another user wrote sarcastically, “Congratulations to Zomato! You have very hardworking and well-trained workers.”

Others pointed out that CCTV surveillance has become widespread and such actions are likely to be exposed quickly.

At the same time, some social media users looked at the situation from a different perspective, linking it to economic struggles faced by low-income workers. One comment suggested that the incident reflected the hardships faced by people working low-wage jobs and questioned the social conditions that could push someone toward such acts.

Another user remarked that while stealing public property is wrong, the incident also highlights the financial difficulties some workers may be facing.

Meanwhile, a lighter reaction from one user summed up the internet’s surprise over the unusual nature of the incident, saying, “Temple tap theft was definitely not on anyone’s 2026 bingo card.”
