An actor known to millions of viewers for being at the centre of a murder cover up on Happy Valley has been confirmed to star in this weekend's Vera series finale.
After being back on screen for just over a month, it's nearly time for DCI Stanhope to take another break, following six brand new feature length new episode. The final instalment of Vera's latest run will air on ITV on Sunday, February 5 and, as well as main protagonists like Brenda Blethyn and Kenny Doughty, being involved, there will also be a number of guest stars making an appearance on screen.
One of those is Kevin Doyle, the actor most famous for playing killer detective John Wadsworth in Happy Valley's second series. Fans of the recently ended drama were gripped back in 2016, when Kevin's on-screen alias murdered a woman he was having an affair with, after she threatened to expose his infidelity to his wife. After killing her, he then tried to pin her death on another criminal, who was responsible for a series of murders in the area, but ended up being found out by his own colleagues; leading to dramatic scenes as he jumped off a bridge in the final episode.

After his famous role in Happy Valley, Kevin played the much nicer part of footman Joseph Moseley in Downton Abbey, both the TV show and it's films, while BBC viewers will also remember him for his role in Jimmy McGovern drama The Lakes back in the 90s.
Kevin will play Ronnie Browne in Vera's series finale, although, unless you've already read the book The Darkest Evening, by Vera author Ann Cleeves, you won't know too much about his character.
A teaser for The Darkest Evening reads: "On the night of a massive storm, trying to get home, DCI Vera Stanhope comes across an abandoned car with a baby inside. With no mobile signal and blocked roads at every turn, Vera is forced to seek refuge somewhere she’d rather not be, Brockburn House, the Stanhope’s ancestral pile. Vera doesn’t exactly receive a warm welcome from her estranged family as there’s a function in full swing and her turning up with a baby isn’t a great look."
It adds: "Things start to look even worse and take a far sinister turn when a body is found on the track leading to Brockburn House.
