Happy Valley fans 'work out' what happened after credits rolled

Happy Valley fans think they have "worked out" what happens next, after the show drew to its final conclusion on Sunday night.

Many viewers of the gritty BBC drama say there were a number of loose ends after the episode saw Catherine Cawood come out alive during her final showdown with Tommy Lee Royce. The nation watched as twisted murderer Tommy, played by James Norton, broke into Catherine's home after escaping prison and then fleeing from the gang he had been working with.

But by the time he reached Catherine's house he was bleeding badly and seemed unable to physically attack her as he had done in the past.

Tommy then doused himself in petrol saying the taser she was holding would no longer work and he was going to kill himself. Before lighting a match, he said: "I've already taken a load of pills anyway, belt and braces me. I'm not going back to prison."

While viewers were relieved to see Catherine finish the series unharmed, some wanted to see more from the subplots involving the dodgy pharmacist-turned-murderer and the abusive PE teacher, the Mirror reports. There was also a scene where Catherine's boss thought Ryan was a trainee officer.

Fans have been quick to discuss the episode on Twitter, and many think they've sussed what happens next for all involved. Janine said: "Ryan becomes the next sergeant Cawood, he's definitely the right side of the law".

Stella said: "Ryan becomes a copper and nicks Neil. He's definitely dodgy". Steve said: "Still think Neil is Tommy's dad". Emma said: "Thinking right now of Faisal and Rob in the police cells. The other two lads will also surely talk of Faisal to lower their sentences".

Patricia said: "Darius won't be convicted on Tommy's evidence, he will have a good lawyer", while Angela said: "Catherine better be booking a holiday somewhere hot and far away with that two grand, or at least getting a new kitchen".
