The penultimate episode of the last ever series of Happy Valley had viewers screaming at their TV as they were left with a major cliffhanger. The gripping episode saw confused teen Ryan Cawood discover the horrific truth about his killer father Tommy Lee Royce from Ann Gallagher, who was abducted and raped by the vile psychopath back in series one.
Ryan was in hiding with the rest of the Cawood clan after Tommy went on the run after escaping from court while standing trial for the murder of Gary Gaggowski. And when Ryan turned up at Ann and his uncle Daniel's door, she let rip over a glass of wine and told him Tommy had raped his mum Becky, that he was raised from being a baby following her suicide by his granny Catherine Cawood and that he was never wanted by the rest of the family.
When Catherine finally tracked Ryan down, after he did a bunk from his granddad Richard and his wife Ros's house, there was a heart-wrenching moment when Ryan told his granny he loved her. Later there was a shock for Ryan when his dad messaged him via his games console while in hiding.

Ryan appeared to be left with a dilemma as Tommy put to him the idea of fleeing abroad to a start a new life together, and Tommy pushed for them to chat again. As fans held their breath over Ryan's decision they think the 16-year-old's future was sealed in his exchange with Tommy.
@shahin_lisa tweeted: "So Ryan tells his granny that he loves her. She doesn’t say it BUT Tommy voluntarily tells Ryan he loves him. #HappyValley That’s going to seal it for Ryan." And @Stepharrnee tweeted: "Tommy told Ryan he loved him when Catherine didn't. I do think Ryan is setting Tommy up though."
And a worried @SUMMERLOVESWlFT thought: "He’s definitely thinking about it since Catherine didn’t say I love you back. Oh I can’t wait a week for this." @ifeelflames commented: "Tommy saying he loves him makes me wish even harder that Catherine had said it back."
@jambong said: "I took such a sharp intake of breath when he said 'I love you' to his granny that my lungs now sit in my thighs." And @Emma1530 fumed: "So annoyed at Catherine, Ryan needed to hear 'I love you too' and now that golden bullet has been delivered by his dad."
@LynetteFay tweeted: "‘For Christ’s sake, Ryan!!!’ *SCREAMING*" And @jo_conno said: "Not me screaming 'HE’S GONNA KILL YER NAN' at the end of happy valley there. I physically can not wait another week. Am gonna be sick."
But @_LucasMichael_ pointed out: "Ryan didn't say he loved him but he said he loves Catherine." And @allygliptin came up with the theory: "Ryan kills Tommy in a fit of rage after finding out what he truly did to his mum. Catherine then goes to prison as she covers for Ryan." And Mary Helen Perry said on Facebook: "I think it's Ryan who kills his father to save his granny."
