Happy Valley ending revealed WEEKS AGO as fans spot give away hiding in plain sight

The ending of Happy Valley was revealed before the third and final series of the BBC drama even premiered at the start of the year, viewers suspect.

Eagle-eyed fans have spotted a major giveaway on a promotional image for the popular Sally Wainwright TV series - taking to social media to point out how the image reveals exactly how things will go down during Sunday night's finale.

Ahead of the eagerly-anticipated episode airing this weekend, fans are busy trying to work out if Tommy Lee Royce ( James Norton ) will literally get away with murder following his escape from court, or if Catherine Cawood ( Sarah Lancashire ) will finally get justice for her late daughter and the rapist's other victims.

In addition to predicting millionaire Nevison Gallagher will play a huge part in Tommy's potential downfall, some Happy Valley fans have been busy examining evidence the conclusion to the crime drama was actually revealed weeks ago.

Taking to Twitter on Monday, following Sunday night's penultimate episode, Happy Valley fan David Chipakupaku shared an official promotional image for the third series of the show.

In the image, Catherine, Tommy and Ryan Cawood take centre stage as areas of the Yorkshire village act as a backdrop - with one tiny suspicious detail many never picked up on when the artwork was released before series three began.

"++ Potential #HappyValley Spoilers! ++," the self-confessed 'Sarah Lancashire stan account' began when sharing their theory on Twitter.

"Has the ending been staring us in the face all along?" David asked his followers.

"This is the artwork for series three, which was released more than a month ago. You can see the road bike Tommy uses circled (crassly) in red.

"And then, in blue…a massive fire …"

Intrigued, one of his followers asked: "But what’s on fire??????"

David replied: "That’s my question! Is it a house, in which case, does Tommy try to burn Nev’s castle down? Or maybe he sets light to Catherine’s place cos he can’t get a gun?"

The Happy Valley fan shared the theory on Twitter (@David_Chippa/Twitter)

"I reckon it’s Nev’s and I have my suspicions about Neil too," his follower agreed in their reply on Monday.

Happy Valley fans will have to wait until Sunday night to find out if David's theory is correct.

The penultimate episode of the long-running series saw rapist Tommy taken to a safe house to lie low for five days before being smuggled to Marbella to put his Spanish lessons in prison to use - possibly alongside his son Ryan.

As Tommy prepared to flee to the Costa del Crime, Sarah Lancashire's character Catherine and her family gathered in millionaire Nevison Gallagher huge property as they tried to figure out how to keep safe while Tommy plans his first jaunt abroad.

The episode concluded with Ryan chatting with Tommy through their game consoles - with the villain asking his son to meet up with him.

Ahead of the explosive finale, director Fergus O'Brien has spilled on what fans can expect from the ending.

On an episode of Shrine Podcasts, director Fergus revealed he'll be keeping his cards close to his chest on what exactly goes on – but has revealed how viewers will feel when the chase between Catherine and Tommy comes to an end.

"You can expect to be thrilled," he said. "I literally can't tell you anything plot-wise because I would be hunted down probably.

"But it's really exciting. I've rewatched it recently for some reason or other and I remember looking at the time code and I was 16 minutes in and I couldn't believe how much stuff has happened."

He added: "It's a rollercoaster. It picks you up and flings you around and slaps you against the wall, slaps you in the face and wallops you across the room.

"It really takes you on a ride and the ending is really satisfying. It's dramatic but in a really interesting and clever way.

"I think people will go away feeling sad that it's over but I think they'll be satisfied."

*The final episode of Happy Valley airs this Sunday at 9pm on BBC One
