Karwa Chauth is a very religious festival of India, predominantly observed in northern and western India. Hindu married women observe this for the long life of their husbands. It is mainly celebrated in the states of Northern India such as Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Uttar Pradesh and Rajasthan.
Karwa Chauth comes from two words: Karwa which means an earthen pot and chauth which means fourth. The festival falls on the fourth day after Purnima in the month of Kartik as per the Hindu calendar and earthen pots are the main feature of the puja; hence the name Karwa Chauth.
