Indian Independence Day is celebrated every year on August 15 to mark the end of British rule in India in 1947. On this day, we remember and pay homage to all the freedom fighters who fought and struggled for India's independence for years. This day also marks the anniversary of the partition of British India into two independent dominions: India and Pakistan.
After attaining independence on August 15, 1947, Jawaharlal Nehru – the first Prime Minister of India – hoisted the national flag at Red Fort in Delhi. He then addressed the nation and since then, this has become an annual tradition followed by the presiding Indian Prime Minister.
