Following the nine-day Navratri celebration, everyone looks forward to celebrating Dussehra, an auspicious festival. On this day, people honor Lord Rama, who valiantly fought and vanquished Ravana over the course of ten days in order to save his cherished wife, Sita. October 24 is Dussehra's date this year.
Dasha, which means "ten," and hara, which means "defeat," are the Sanskrit roots of the word Dussehra. In India, Vijayadashami, also known as Dussehra, is extensively observed with much grandeur and passion. To commemorate the victory of good over evil, the effigies of Ravana, Meghnath, and Kumbhkaran are burned in several locations.
