As the sun sets on the eve of November 26, 2023, the ancient city of Varanasi gears up for a celestial celebration - Dev Diwali. Also known as Dev Deepawali, this vibrant festival is celebrated on the sacred occasion of Kartik Purnima, symbolising the triumph of good over evil.
Dev Diwali, derived from "Dev" meaning divine or godly, and "Diwali" referring to the festival of lights, embodies a spiritual glow. It's a commemoration of Lord Shiva's victory over the demon Tripurasur, hence also known as Tripurotsav or Tripurari Purnima. The festival falls on Kartik Purnima, a day of great significance in the Hindu calendar.
