A city centre office block currently occupied by a major employer will soon be demolished. The Domestic & General building on Talbot Street will be knocked down to be replaced by a new 10-storey student accommodation tower, after Nottingham City Council approved the plans on June 24.
There will be 318 student beds in the building, as well as communal facilities at ground level. Domestic & General will move into their new premises on Station Street in late 2022.
People said the building 'stuck out' in an area "dominated" by newly built student accommodation. Mahadi Allam, 23, who studies business at Nottingham Trent University and lives nearby, said: "There are a lot of options around here. This area is dominated by student accommodation.

"It does not look like a nice building or really add a lot. They could do a lot more with the new building.
"It sticks out really badly next to all of these new buildings. I don't think anyone will have a problem with it being gone."
Inaya Khan, 23, a doctor from West Bridgford, said: "It's quite an ugly building. I don't think anyone will miss it really.
"I don't think many people around here will be bothered, as they are mostly students. I don't think there's any problem with knocking it down."
A Nottingham resident, who wished to stay anonymous, said: "I think it's better that these new buildings are put up, as it concentrates students in one area.
"I don't think people will be too upset about the building going, its a bit tired. It doesn't really fit in with all the buildings that have been built around it."
Refurbishment of the existing building was considered at an early stage but was not found to be viable by the developer. In the new-build accommodation there will be communal study areas, communal kitchens, a gym and a cinema.
In a planning document, Leonard Design Architects on behalf of applicant McLaren Property, said: "Early on in the schemes development, consideration was given to the repurposing of the existing building, which was found to be unsuitable in this instance.
"Consideration has however also been given to the potential future re-purposing of the scheme into 1 and 2 bed apartments should the student residential demand fall. Use of materials have been considered to ensure that the scheme fits within its surroundings as well as ensuring longevity and a quality finish. In summary this is a well considered development which not only will create a more uniform street elevation along both Talbot Stand Wollaton St, but will contribute a new piece of high quality architecture to this area of the City Centre."
