Hansal Mehta REACTS to allegations that Kareena Kapoor Khan's 'The Buckingham Murders' was inspired by Kate Winslet’s 'Mare of Easttown'

Kareena Kapoor Khan soon soon be seen on the big screen in the highly anticipated film, 'The Buckingham Murders', which hits theatres on September 13. Ahead of the film's release, netizens have drawn comparisons between the Bollywood murder mystery and the critically acclaimed 2021 series 'Mare of Easttown', which starred Hollywood actress Kate Winslet.

The trailer of the Hansal Mehta directorial that dropped last week, saw Kareena in action as detective Jasmeet Bhamra, racing against the clock while trying to solve a murder case. Amidst the chatter around the film, an X user questioned the originality of the film, stating it resembled the Emmy-nominated 'Mare of Easttown'. The fan expressed concern, saying, "Mare of Easttown ... God please!! Plz Get something original #TheBuckinghamMurders."

Responding to the post, the director shot down speculations saying, "Decide after you watch. Don’t jump to conclusions."

During the trailer launch, Kareena candidly shared her admiration for Kate Winslet, calling herself a "huge fan" of the actress. However, she clarified that while Winslet inspires her, she noted that her character Jasmeet in the film, is her own interpretation.

Kareena shared that there was "no harm" in drawing inspiration from fellow actors, noting that actors often need motivation in their film projects.

'The Buckingham Murders', co-produced by Kareena, Shobha Kapoor, and Ektaa R Kapoor, also features Ranveer Brar, Ash Tandon, and Keith Allen. The film follows Jasmeet, a grieving detective dealing with the trauma of her own child’s murder, as she investigates a missing child case in a new town.
