Promising another demolition job, Devin Haney has accused the George Kambosos camp of "excuses excuses" ahead of their world title rematch in Melbourne.
Haney will throw all four of his lightweight belts on the line in Sunday's unified blockbuster at Rod Laver Arena but showed no inkling of fear in an explosive pre-fight presser on Friday.
The great American "Dream" peppered Kambosos Jr with verbal volleys in a manner not unlike the way he jabbed his way to a relentless victory over the Sydney slugger in June.
The first loss of Kambosos's 21-fight career - which featured some 59 frustrating clinches between the combatants - prompted Australia's vanquished world champion to dispense with his US trainer Javiel Centeno, other members of his entourage and lobby for a referee less tolerant to holding.
"We didn't have urgency in the corner. The trainer didn't execute the right instructions to George. We're not going to fully blame the trainer but that was part of the adjustments we've made," Kambosos's father Jim said on Friday.
"This time around we've got an all-Australian team - hooked up with old trainer that George was 14-0 in Australia and George has got that fire back in the belly.
"Old-school methods and come Sunday it's going to be a totally different corner and a totally different George Kambosos."
Team Haney, though, insists nothing can save Kambosos from another bitter defeat in the much-anticipated return bout.
"The Kambososes over there make excuses after excuses and we're all tired of hearing them," Haney's trainer-father Bill said before launching another tirade in the face-off.
"That is not the Australian way, that's not the US way ... My son is going to whip his arse."
Conceding they got swept up in the hype and the bright lights of the first fight, Kambosos (20-1, 10KO) has opted for a low-key build-up for the sequel, training almost in anonymity and leaving Haney (28-0, 15KO) to the trash talking.
"They don't say much but whenever they do open their mouths it's a different excuse," the younger Haney chimed in.
"Now it's the coach, then it was the referee cause I was holding - every excuse in the book.
"But truly if you thought I was holding so much, why would you fire your whole team?"
"None of your business," Kambosos said.
"There's no excuses. Whatever they're saying, it's no problem. We're zoned in on one thing and everything is perfect on our side.
"Sunday is when I'm going to do my talking."
