With Christmas and New Year celebrations now firmly behind us, you might be thinking of booking a couple of getaways this year.
Holidays, like many other things, are getting more and more expensive. So if you're only planning on going away for a couple of days, you may want to skip the hold luggage and opt for a carry-on bag only.
It's important to be aware of the different rules and regulations that each airline has, so that you don't get caught out and have to pay extra. To help with this, we've rounded up the most up-to-date hand luggage rules for Ryanair, easyJet, Jet2, British Airways and TUI.
Here's everything you need to know about each airline before you jet off.
Ryanair
All passengers are entitled to carry one small personal bag on board their flights, which has to be able to fit under the seat in front of you. This can't measure any more than 40cm x 20cm x 25cm.
If you attempt to board the flight with a bigger bag, you might be unable to take it with you. Or, if there's space, staff will place it in the hold for a fee of £45.99, and you'll be able to pick it up off the luggage belt at your destination.
You can use Ryanair's bag sizers to find out if your luggage is suitable to take to the cabin, which can be found at the Bag Drop Desks.
easyJet
According to easyJet, everyone can bring a small cabin bag onboard for free, measuring no more than 40cm x 36cm x 20cm including any wheels or handles. This has to be able to fit under the seat in front of you.
It can weigh up to 15kg, but easyJet requires that you're able to carry it onboard yourself.
If your bag doesn't fit these requirements, it'll need to be placed in the hold and you'll be charged a fee of £39.99.
Jet2
You can take one piece of hand luggage on board Jet2 flights as long as it weighs no more than 10kg and is no larger than 56cm x 45cm x 25cm, including any wheels and handles.
If your hand luggage weighs more or is larger than this, it will need to be checked into the aircraft hold, and you may have to pay an additional charge.
Customers can also bring a small, personal item on board (such as a handbag, laptop bag or airport purchase), as long as it is placed underneath the seat in front of you.
British Airways
All British Airways flights allow you to take one piece of hand luggage and a smaller item on board. The cabin bag must be 56 x 45 x 25cm and weighing 23kg or less, and the small item must be no more than 40 x 30 x 15cm.
Your hand luggage should be placed in the overhead bin, but may have to be stored in the hold if there isn't enough space.
TUI
Customers can take one piece of hand luggage on board TUI flights with maximum dimensions of 55x40x20cm and weighing no more than 10kg.
Things like laptops, handbags and items bought at the airport must fit within your 1 piece of hand luggage. You must be able to lift your hand luggage into the overhead storage compartments yourself.
