Hampden hero Ally McCoist tells Jordan Henderson he wouldn't get a game for Scotland

Ally McCoist has told Jordan Henderson he would not get a game for Scotland on the current form of Steve Clarke's side.

The Scots and England meet at Hampden on Tuesday to mark the 150th anniversary of the first international – a goalless draw at the West of Scotland Cricket Club in Partick.

Clarke’s side go into the game on a high having won 11 qualifying matches in a row. Friday’s 3-0 victory in Cyprus made it five wins from five in the Euro 2024 qualifiers and kept open the possibility of Scotland qualifying on Tuesday.

On the flip side, criticism has come in for England after their draw with Ukraine on Saturday and former Liverpool skipper Henderson's start was questioned by some fans.

As a result, Scotland hero McCoist was quizzed on whether Henderson would start for Scotland on talkSPORT this morning.

He responded: "That is a great question. I'm going to tell you right now, I hope Jordan Henderson isn't listening, no.

"He is not getting in it. Our midfield and left side of defence is our strongest area of the team, with all due respect I think so.

"I think we have better forwards than we have had before, but not at the elite level.

"I think defensively we are far better than we have been, but perhaps not at the elite level.

"I think our strongest part of the team is our midfield and our left side of defence with Kieran Tierney and Andy Robertson.

"Is he getting in ahead of Scott McTominay, Callum McGregor, John McGinn and Billy Gilmour? I am struggling to leave any one of them out right at this moment in time.

"Clearly Jordan Henderson would get games for Scotland there is no doubt about it, but right now on current form I am struggling to leave any of those four boys out."
