Hamilton Rugby Club were beaten finalists as the long-awaited 7s tournament returned to Laigh Bent.
Bathed in sunshine, the crowd were treated to a series of entertaining, high quality matches between 10 clubs from across Scotland.
The tournament got underway with a pool stage, requiring each squad to play four energy-sapping matches for a place in the cup and shield competitions.
By all accounts, each of the 20 pool games was highly exciting and played in a good spirit.
By the end of the pool stage, Hamilton Bulls came out winners of Group A, with Whitecraigs as runners-up.
Group B was decided by score difference, which saw Marr secure top position, with charity team Hearts and Balls in second place, who had defeated the Premiership champions earlier that afternoon.
The cup semi-finals got underway, with Hamilton racking up four converted tries to beat Heart and Balls and reach the final, while Marr overcame Whitecraigs.
Reaching the final was a huge achievement for the Hamilton side, as until four weeks ago only three of the 12-man squad had any previous experience of 7s rugby, and is testament to the work of coach Ben Addison.
Hamilton were first on the scorecard when Andy Wilson crossed for an early five points, which was converted by Kayne Macaullay.
Unfortunately for Hamilton, however, Marr demonstrated a greater experience and physical dominance to run in five tries and win 31-7.
Those teams ranked third and fourth in their respective pools competed in the shield competition.
Oban Lorne beat Glasgow University and GHA beat Biggar to set up an entertaining final.
While GHA emerged as clear winners, Oban Lorne gae a good account of themselves and fought until the end.
Hamilton Rugby Club president Jack Ryan said: “There is little doubt that this was one of the most successful 7s tournaments held at Laigh Bent.
“We are grateful to every player, coach and supporter who gave up their Saturday to join us, with special thanks to Oban Lorne and Highland for making the long journey.
“Credit is due to Alex Edmonstone who did most of the event organisation and co-ordinated activities on the day.
“We are also grateful to the band of volunteers who gave up their day.”
