Neil satold Lanarkshire Live : “I’ve been with the company almost 10 years now.
"When I left school my options were further education or to start my working life, so I decided to take on an electrical apprenticeship.
“At the time, a lot of my friends in Hamilton were moving south to London, so I made the move myself working in various roles, eventually up to construction site manager.
"I moved to London for what was initially going to be for six months and I’m still here 17 years later.
“In 2011 I got a job with the Organising Committee of the London 2012 Olympic and Paralympic Games working on the back up electrical systems, and in that role I collaborated a lot with UK Power Networks.
"Once the Games were over and my contract completed, I was able to use that link to join the company in December 2012."
He added: “I did notice a couple of the nominations mentioned my terrible Dad jokes, which is interesting to hear, because I’m not even a Dad!”
Engineers and office staff from UK Power Networks celebrated best-in-class achievements at the company’s awards designed to honour employee achievements that align with the company’s vision and values.
