Hamilton boxer Jordan Grant says staying busy is his best chance of landing a title shot by the end of the year – after picking up a points victory over Latvian Edgars Sniedze on Saturday night.
And the 25-year-old is eager to bring boxing back to Hamilton Town House, with him headlining a night out for fans.
Light-heavyweight Grant beat Sniedze on points in the fourth round of his bout during Sam Kynoch’s Pugilism at the Plaza 6 and reckons he might end up back in the ring in Doncaster this weekend.
That’s part of Grant’s philosophy for 2023 and has told Kynoch to give him as many fights as he can, after a frustrating year 2022 with a broken hand.
On Saturday’s win at Glasgow’s Crowne Plaza, Grant said: “It went well. I knew he was going to be tough, he’s been in with some of the top lads in the light-heavyweight division and has gone the distance with him.
“I knew if I was going to win it would possibly be on points, but I hurt him early on and he kind of stayed away after that. It was a good win, it was positive to get back in there, and everything went to plan.”
He added: “I might be fighting this weekend now down in Doncaster, they need somebody to fight.
“I want to be really busy this year.
“The only way to get up the rankings and be in title contention is to be fighting regularly, and I’m looking forward to the rest of the year.
“I’ve told my promoter Sam Kynoch that I’m open to anything, he’s keeping his ears open and seeing what opportunities are out there. I’m not one to shy away, I’ll take on anything, as I proved
by taking on a fight at the Hydro at the last minute against a boxer with a lot more experience than me.
“The only way to grow and go up the rankings is to go and fight, so I’m looking to take on as much as possible and see where I end up by the end of the year.”
Grant hopes somebody who can organise a fight night at Hamilton Town House will get
in touch with him or his team, and get the ball rolling on a homecoming.
He said: “We’re trying to get a Scottish title fight, or a title fight of some description, at Hamilton Town House.
“I want to push for that, to get as many eyes on it as possible, and if there is anybody who knows a way to get in contact, to get in touch with us.
“It’s a venue I would like to fight at, and boxing hasn’t been there for however many years,
but it was a boxing venue in the past.
“It would be good to get boxing back there, especially if it was myself that was headlining it, in my home town.”
