Hamilton Accies' striker search sees 'offers put to two players' ahead of Ross County cup clash

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin says offers have been made to two forward-thinking players as he seeks to strengthen his forward line.

Ahead of Saturday's Scottish Cup clash at home to Rankin's former club Ross County, Accies have been given permission to speak to a couple of targets and are now waiting to hear if their terms suit the players in question.

The club released attacker Ellis Brown on Tuesday to make way for new arrivals and Rankin is hopeful the club can persuade their targets that New Douglas Park is where their future lies.

He said: "Ellis left on Tuesday and we need someone to come in and play a bigger part than Ellis was here.

"That's not a slight on Ellis. It's a case of we need players to come in now and improve our starting 11.

"Where we are now, we have put offers to a couple of players.

"But we can't wait forever.

"We are at a stage of the season now where we need players in to help us.

"We have identified targets who myself and the staff feel can come in and contribute in a big way.

"Whether these players think they've got something better or they are better than this level, that is up to them.

"But we can't stall too long and get players in as soon as we can.

"Whether it is this week or next week, we are doing all we can to get them in.

"They are forward-thinking, creative players.

"We haven't scored enough goals so bringing players in who are going to create and score goals will help the defensive players as well."

Accies have so far added two new signings during the January transfer window, with midfielder Tom Sparrow coming in on loan from Stoke City and defender Dylan McGowan arriving on loan from Kilmarnock.

Asked if fans could see another fresh face in the door before the weekend, Rankin added: "I couldn't put a timeline on it. We have been working on it for two weeks now but maybe the players will come to a stage where they decide it is for them.

"But we can't wait forever.

"We have put an offer to the player, we've been given permission to speak to them, he knows exactly what we want, where we see him fitting in and it is a case of if it isn't him, it will need to be somebody else."
