Hamilton Accies star Scott Martin says 'it's usually bookings I pick up, not assists' after role in Scottish Cup win over East Kilbride

Scott Martin joked he's usually picking up bookings instead of assists.

So it was refreshing for the Accies star to play a part in two of their four goals in the Scottish Cup win over East Kilbride.

Martin laid on two for Andy Ryan on his way to a hat-trick in the 4-0 victory that sent Accies into tomorrow' fourth round draw.

It's the first time this season that Martin has set up a team-mate and it is a figure hugely overshadowed by the NINE bookings he has received in 19 appearances - a fact not missed by the midfielder.

He laughed: "I think that's my first assists of the season. It's usually yellow cards I'm getting, to be fair, so I'm happy with that!

"Chucky does all the hard work, I just give him the ball. I'm glad to get that linkage going and hopefully we can bring that into the league games.

"He's been a breath of fresh air since he's come back into the team.

"We really missed him when he was out injured but he's shown he can score all types of goals for us so it is great to have him back in the side.

"The main thing was always getting into the next round but hopefully this can help kick us on for the rest of the season."

Accies have struggled for form in the league with just two wins in 16 Championship games leaving them bottom of the table.

So he hopes this can be a catalyst for better performances ahead of next weekend's clash with second-place Queen's Park.

He added: "We needed that. The performances overall haven't been too bad, we've just been leaking some goals, but we kept a clean sheet here and we need to build on it for a massive game next week.

"I think we all need a bit of confidence and for everyone to get behind us.

"We are all trying and this could be massive for us to help us get out of trouble.

"They made it difficult to start with but we stuck to our game plan and it shone through in the end.

"We are just pleased to get into the next round."

Accies join the Scottish Premiership teams who enter the competition at the fourth round stage and on Monday's draw, Martin said: "I'd take anybody. I'm just glad we are in the next round.

"You always look at Celtic and Rangers and the Premiership teams, so it would be good to play at one of those stadiums again.

"That would be a good test for us and for the boys to see where they are at."
