Hamilton Accies star gets eight stitches after injury as boss provides squad update ahead of Morton clash

Hamilton boss Stuart Taylor has revealed he expects midfielder Scott Martin to be available for selection on Saturday - despite the player needing eight stitches in his foot following an injury in the 2-2 draw at Arbroath last week.

Martin took a heavy blow to his foot at Gayfield and hobbled off after 64 minutes to be replaced by Lewis Spence.

It was a sore one that required medical treatment, but Taylor says Martin is determined to play his part this weekend when Morton come calling.

He said: "Scott Martin got eight stitches in his foot after the Arbroath game, but there's no tying Scotty down.

"He always wants to get involved and be part of things, so it will take something quite special to stop him coming back."

Asked about how the rest of squad was shaping up for the weekend, Taylor didn't want to give too much away, but he did add: "Miko [Virtanen] is still feeling his achilles. We thought he would have been fine for the Arbroath game so we'll need to see how he is in the next couple of days.

"Shaun Want has been training and getting stronger.

"It's good to see him back on the training pitch and he's in and about doing his normal programme now, so he comes into contention as well."

Accies face a Morton side managed by Hamilton legend Dougie Imrie but it's the first time the sides have met since his appointment.

The last meeting between the sides was a painful one for Accies, as they conceded a 97th minute equaliser at Cappielow.

And that will likely be driving most of the squad on this weekend.

Taylor added: "We need to make sure we look after ourselves and do the right things.

"When we go and pass the ball on Saturday it really needs to be that bit quicker than we've done it before and more precise.

"That fits in with what we want to do things anyway, by being better in every single game we play.

"In regard to the 97th minute goal, it's a lesson that was tough for us at the time and it's about making sure we deal with this game properly."
