Andy Ryan says Hamilton Accies desperately need to find some consistency in the Championship with the club currently taking "one step forward and two steps back."
Last week Accies managed to haul themselves off the foot of the table with a surprise 1-0 win away to title-chasing Inverness, only to fall back to the foot of the table on Saturday after being leapfrogged by Arbroath following a 1-0 defeat at Gayfield.
It is frustrating for the forward and with eighth-place Cove calling this weekend, Accies have the opportunity to get back off the bottom once more.
But Ryan says they must find a run of strong displays and results, instead of they mixed bag they have produced so far this season in a run of two wins, six defeats and four draws so far.
He said: "Listen, it's not great right now. We know that. The table is what it is and we are there for a reason.
"It's like one step forward two steps back at the moment, so we need to start finding a level of consistency in our performances that is going to get us results on a more frequent basis.
"It might not have happened, but every game we are trying to win games. That might sound a bit wild considering some of the results we have had but Saturday is another game that we will try to win.
"It's up to us as players to take responsibility for results and try to put things right with a good three points on Saturday.
"It was always going to be a completely different game to Inverness, going to Gayfield.
"I've been up there many times as a player and it's a difficult place to go and get a result."
Ryan admits the defeat with 10 men at Arbroath has winded them a bit, but he hopes Accies can return to the levels they showed at Inverness and in the home defeat to Partick earlier in the month, when they gave Ian McCall's men a run for their money in a 2-1 defeat.
The 28-year-old added: "In the Thistle game you could see there was a lift in the perofrmance and we took that into the Inverness game.
"The mood has been pretty decent.
"It has taken a wee bump on Saturday there but it is important we don't let that affect us too much because it is a difficult place to go.
"We want to make sure we get the Thistle and Inverness performances again, especially being back at home this week.
"The fans could see in the Thistle game that there was a real desire to go and win and the they really responded to that.
"So it is important that we do that from the get-go on Saturday."
