Hamilton Accies' confidence is low and we need to snap out of it, says Lewis Smith

Lewis Smith admits Hamilton Accies are low in confidence after their 4-0 thrashing by Queen's Park, but he hopes tomorrow's visit of Inverness in the SPFL Trust Trophy can get them firing again.

The Accies players reviewed their Hampden horror show this week and Smith says they will learn from the mistakes that saw them concede four goals in a terrible 20 minute spell in the first half.

Accies have won just four games in all competitions over their last 19 outings and Smith conceded their heads went down as soon as Queen's Park broke the deadlock, so that is something they need to work on ahead of a youthful Caley Jags side visiting.

He explained: "Everyone is really disappointed and I can't really put into words how down everyone was in the changing room.

"After the win over East Kilbride in the cup, we hoped that would give us a bit of confidence but that wasn't the case.

"We watched back the clips from the [Queen's Park] game and we were really disappointed in the performance, especially in the first half.

"We could see there was a lack of intensity and the confidence was low, especially as soon as we conceded the first goal.

"So it is about how we bounce back from conceding a goal and making sure we don't fall further behind in games.

"Hopefully we can learn from these clips, improve and bounce back as quickly as possible.

"We have to regroup now because there is no point in feeling sorry for ourselves."

Smith has made 21 appearances for Accies this season, netting once, and could take his overall club outings to 100 if he plays against Inverness this weekend.

He feels he should have recorded a better goals return so far and hopes the Caley clash can give him a personal boost as well.

He added: "One goal this season is not a pleasing figure for me. I know I can do better and I have to do better for the team.

"I feel like I've had a few chances but just not taken them this season.

"Hopefully that changes and more goals come soon, which will help me kick on and regain my confidence."
