Hamilton Accies boss looking to bring 'quality not quantity' as player search continues

Hamilton Accies boss John Rankin is no closer to bringing in signings this summer but says that's because he's looking more closely at potential players.

Rankin says he's likely to utilise the loans market as he bids to bolster his squad for the Championship season ahead, but says he won't just bring people in for the sake of it.

The former Dundee United and Hibs star has so far brought in midfielder Jonny Ngandu and defender Michael Doyle, with fans clamouring for more new faces.

However, while the Accies head coach wants to push his squad, he won't rush in.

He said: "I’d still like to get some bodies in to strengthen what we have, and I keep saying it, but it’s more quality than quantity that we need to add.

Ex-Coventry City midfielder Jonny Ngandu was Rankin's first signing as Accies boss (SNS Group)

“We need to add that quality just to push the players that are here, just to give them that extra little push.

"The loan market will be something we will look at, and see where we can get to with that.

"There are lots of players getting put to us on a daily basis, it’s not something we’re going to rush into, but to look more closely at.

"At this stage we’re not overly close with anyone, there are a lot of names being branded about.

Experienced defender Michael Doyle has also been added to Rankin's squad (Hamilton Academical FC)

"But I’m sure every club is the same, and it’s a case that we need to get the ones that fit us.

"There’s no point in bringing in similarities, or like for like – we need to get players that are quality, and different from what we have.”
