Halo season two new trailer shows an action-packed battle for Reach

The war drums are beating in the new trailer for Halo season two ahead of the sci-fi show’s premiere on February 8.

Master Chief is back, and this time he’s fending off an all-out onslaught from the military alien alliance known as The Covenant.

Cue a haunting female voiceover, as we watch Reach get pummeled by plasma beams from space, which portends of an “end to your existence”.

After an ominous Elite lights up his deadly Energy Sword, chaos ensues: a burning skyline shows the devastation that awaits, spaceships are blown to pieces, and projectiles explode upon impact.

Judging by the trailer, the new season will be heavy on action. Speaking of which, there are several glimpses of close quarters encounters between the alien baddies and the good guys of United Nations Space Command (UNSC).

If all that doesn’t get Halo fans hyped for its return to Paramount Plus, nothing will. Then again, the first season had its fair share of detractors, who tutted when Master Chief shed his helmet and got it on with a love interest. Come on, even hardened super-soldiers yearn for romance.

Despite the flak, Halo became Paramount Plus’s most-watched show, so a second season was a no-brainer for the fledgling streaming service. Pablo Schreiber is back as Master Chief, alongside Natascha McElhone and Jen Taylor, who voiced Cortana in the games and the show.

As for the new season’s storyline, Master Chief is hellbent on finding the ancient alien structure known as the Halo as Reach teeters on the brink of destruction.

Released in December, the first trailer was also full of battles and also teased a new character in James Ackerson, “a formidable intelligence operative who has spent his career climbing the ranks of the UNSC’s secretive Office of Naval Intelligence”.

If you missed the chance to watch the first season for free on YouTube last year, you’ll need a Paramount Plus subscription to catch up. Fortunately, new users can get a seven-day free trial if they don’t want to fork out the £7 monthly fee.
